On New Years day, 2007, I decided to take a break from songwriting for Luxxury and all the crap related to having a band, and to try remixing and DJing for a year. It’s 2008 now and I’m going back to songwriting now, but here are all the remixes I did in 2007. (Note that all the songs are available for free via the blogs links below the title.)

1. Glass Candy: “I Always Say Yes” (Baron von Luxxury Remix Odyssey)”

This is the first remix I decided to do. It took 3 months to get the files from Johnny Jewel, and then it took me 9 months to make. Started: April 2007. You can read all about how it was made here. Completed: December 2007. Total duration: nineteen minutes, in five sections. Total duration of music in this version: eight minutes and eighteen seconds, in two sections.

4. Hilary Duff: “Stranger (Baron von Luxxury’s Eyes of Laura Mars Remix)”
Began April 2007. Completed May 2007. Rejected by Hollywood records: June 2007.

5. Robots in Disguise: “We’re In the Music Business (Baron von Luxxury Remix)”
Began: July 2007. Files destroyed in hard drive meltdown: August 2007. Revisited and redone from scratch: September/October 2007. Released on the official “We’re In the Music Biz” single by Presidential Records, February 2008.

6. Scissors for Lefty: “Ghetto Ways (Baron von Luxxury’s Super Thanks for Asking Remix)”
Started: February 2007. Completed March 2007. Available on “Underhanded Romance” on Eenie Meenie Records USA and Rough Trade records UK. Also on vinyl!

7. Luxxury: “Drunk (Lovesick Vocoders at Night Remix)”
Began: Devin did the awesome half-bar looping bit (which can be heard at the beginning of this track and towards the end again) in early 2003. I started to build a remix out of it with him in February 2005. We completed a rough mix called “Night Version (Miami)” in time for Winter Music in March but then lost the original file. It took me a year and half before I decided to go back to the drawing board to rebuild it from scratch. Even then, it took from January and April 2007 to redo it. All in all this was the most painful mix I’ve ever done. Thank Jesus it came out sounding ill.

8. CSS: “A la la (Baron von Luxxury’s Lovefoxx + BVL = BFF Remix)”
Begun new year’s day 2007. Finished in February, then put it on hold for a while because I couldn’t tell if it was any good. Listened back in late August and decided I liked it. But more importantly: what do you think, Lovefoxx???
